The approach into Bergen Airport is stunning. Flying over the scenic islands of Askøy, Litlesorta, Laksevag and Fyllingsdalen before landing at Bergen Airport. I was in awe before I even stepped foot on Norwegian soil. Norway’s west coast is dotted with little islands, all with their own unique slice of Norwegian landscape, and you really get a sense of the vast numbers from the air.
The sun was shining through the windows of the plane and there were blue skies all around.
Stepping off the plane into radiating 32°C heat really made me glad that I had packed shorts and light clothes. I advise you to check the weather forecast for your destination, from a few different weather providers, before you travel to give you an idea of what to take with you. I always take a jumper and find that layering works wonders as you can easily remove or add a layer of clothing if and when required. You certainly don’t want your lack of appropriate clothing to ruin your trip!
Bergen’s Light Rail departs from a platform just outside the terminal and passes through the quaint and scenic towns on the outskirts of Bergen. This relaxing 50 minute journey into Bergen is beautiful. I could feel the excitement building as we approached the city.
I stepped off the train and found myself in the centre of this wonderful city. The location of the Light Rail Terminus gives you a great opportunity to have a little preview of the city whilst you make your way to your hotel. As I strolled along the cobbled streets, the city was a wash of colour as flowers in the frequent green spaces were in bloom. A bustling city atmosphere emanates from the streets of Bergen, but with every glance you are reminded of the beautiful location on the West Coast of Norway: whether it's Bryggen wharf - located along the quayside and a ‘must see’ when visiting Bergen - or the magnificent Mount Fløyen.
I was booked in to the Augustin Hotel located in the heart of Bergen - just a short walk from the Light Rail Terminus. My hotel was conveniently situated across the quay from the famous Bryggen Wharf and just a short walk along from Bergen’s famous fish markets.
I could not wait to return to the city's streets to explore the rest of Bergen.
