Where To Stay In Bergen

Bergen is a very popular tourist destination and offers a wide variety of hotels to fit everyone's budget and taste.

I was booked in to the Augustin Hotel located in the heart of Bergen - just a short walk from the Light Rail Terminus. The Augustin Hotel is the “oldest family-run hotel in Bergen” and has a very welcoming atmosphere and modern design. The hotel has a spacious lounge area, wine bar and restaurant. The Augustin has 130 rooms in a variety of sizes and layouts - I was staying in one of their Standard rooms which I found basic but comfortable. This type of room suited me perfectly as I planned to be out exploring Bergen all day.

The Augustin is conveniently situated across the quay from the famous Bryggen Wharf and just a short walk along from Bergen’s famous fish markets. Choosing a hotel within walking distance of the activities and sites you plan to go to is a key part of planning your holiday, and I would definitely recommend the Augustin Hotel as it is both central and great value for money.

On the Eastern side of the city is the stylish Scandic Ørnen hotel - situated just a short walk from Lille Lungegårdsvannet, a small lake and park in the centre of Bergen. Scandic have a large portfolio of hotels across Scandinavia, with several hotels in Bergen city centre, and I have enjoyed staying with them in both Sweden and Denmark. The Ørnen is a modern and spacious, 13 story hotel within walking distance of all Bergen's major tourist attractions and transport hubs. The Scandic Ørnen offers a whopping 368 rooms, 82 allergy friendly rooms and 36 accessible rooms. The hotel also has free wifi, a gym, as well as a restaurant and bar on the 12th floor. I definitely recommend this hotel if you are planning on hiring a car whilst you're in Bergen, as the Ørnen advertises onsite parking.

Adjacent to the world famous Bryggen Wharf is the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel. With a rustic and traditional asthetic on the exterior, this 4 Star hotel is located along the quayside and next door to Bryggen Wharf. How many people can say they've stayed right next to a UNESCO World Heritage site?! The Radisson Blu Royal boasts contemporary rooms and offers guests free access to their fitness centre and sauna, as well as use of their free wifi and the adjacent 26 North restaurant.
